About Punch-A-Bear
Punch-a-Bear (or PAB, as I frequently abbreviate it) is a single-panel, surreal/absurd webcomic by me, Tabia B. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's confusing, but it's always weird. PAB probably houses the most round-headed people on the internet, and if you question that qualified statement, feel free to check out the Archives and count 'em. It started in 2012 and has kept chugging along with occasional time off for good behavior. PAB updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but check out the Facebook page to get reminders about new updates and excuses on the rare occasions an update doesn't happen. You should also check out the B-Side Drawings, where I keep the drawings that are somehow too something to be on the main page. Oh, and no bears were punched in the making of any drawings or even the dang website.
About Me
Hi, I'm Tabia B., and, as you may have guessed, I draw PAB. I hail from Kentucky but currently live in the Bay Area. In addition to drawing round-headed people and fish on the ethereal plane, I paint and draw in the tangible, as well as write essays, poems, plays, and (maybe in the future) rap songs. I am also working on a YouTube show with Dan Dowell. It's been on pause for a while, but we're planning on getting going with it in the for real near future.
Some artists I like and maybe am influenced by include: Edward Gorey, Dali, Bosch, Jean Arp, Duchamp, Man Ray, Lichtenstein, Miró, and Kandinsky (I like contemporary artists too, but the names aren't coming). I like books, too! Maybe an unhealthy amount! This isn't super relevant, but I do think that what a person reads is pretty indicative of what they value. That being said, here's a short list of what I value: anything by Vonnegut or Austen; Orlando; Lolita; Jane Eyre; The Count of Monte Cristo; The Bell Jar; 1984; Johnny Got His Gun; Valerie and Her Week of Wonders; Mine-Haha, or On the Bodily Education of Young Girls; Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage; and...that wasn't as short as I intended. I am a super big fan of Thomas Love Peacock and I can't not mention that. I found a mistake in the dictionary once and feel I should get recognition for it. I use my spare time to watch zombie movies and punch unsuspecting pillows. Oh, yeah, and I make great falafels.
